No.2: All Unhappiness Comes From Not Knowing What God Knows.
(Ref. Basic Laws No.2)

We can assume, logically, that, if God is really God, then He knows everything to be known, understands everything, is all-powerful, cannot be equaled, etc.,etc.,etc. We can also assume that He is well aware of the terrible situations that continually occur on this planet. So we wonder why He doesn't (to our way of thinking) do something to alleviate such situations. What if He has already done something, is still doing something, regarding the problems which beset us? What if we actually are ignorant of what He has and is doing and in our ignorance ask the wrong questions?
If we believe that life as we know it, with all of its troubles, is the totality of existence then we do not have much to hope for, do we? Statistically, at any given moment, the majority of the world's population live to varying degrees in sub-normal conditions whilst the minority live in from reasonable to rich conditions. The majority live to varying degrees in unhealthy conditions whilst the minority are perfectly healthy. Despite the amazing technological gains during the past few decades the rich are getting richer whilst the poor are getting poorer. War between peoples is more prevalent. Peace on Earth is still a dream. Where is the utopian world predicted at the beginning of the twentieth century by people like H.G.Wells, to be brought into being by "men who will be like gods"?
Most of mankind is away from home squandering, in its ignorance, its inheritance, in the assumption that man is his own savior, believing the age-old lie that we are our own gods. At the same time more people are turning in desperation to astrologers and aliens and all kinds of weird and wonderful fantasies or meditating themselves into states of mindlessness in their increasingly frantic strivings for inner peace and a heaven on Earth. The fact, however, that we do rebel in our hearts against whatever hurts we or others experience, proves that we are not willing to settle for anything less than true happiness.
The problem is that in our ignorance we, by asking the wrong questions go the wrong way about it or we attack situations in our own misguided strength, believing that somehow we must achieve a more powerful position than that with which we are confronted. Either way we have not realized that the answer to all of our problems is to awaken to who and what we really are as God knows us and as He has made provision for us to be.
Our unhappiness comes not from outside of ourselves primarily but from inside of ourselves if we have not returned to the Source. The problem isn't in what happens to us or in who hurts us, it's in how we react. Depending on the nature of the particular crisis, we may indeed need to react swiftly in order to deal with it in the moment, and, if we react by trying to change what is happening or the person through whom it is happening we may succeed for a time but nothing has been permanently altered. The suffering will occur again but perhaps in a different context. We, in our fallen, away-from-home nature are an integral part of the world in its fallen away-from-home nature. We will naturally attract suffering as surely as honey attracts flies (1).
Even if we achieve what we consider to be a satisfactory state of well-being health wise, money wise, status wise etc., we, being well aware of the fickle, changeable nature of life, immediately begin living on the treadmill of both solidifying our gains and protecting them from threatening conditions or human competitors. But no matter what we do we cannot guarantee a permanent and continual state of peace and happiness in this Fallen World. A wise man once wrote. "Our hearts cannot rest until they rest in Thee, O God" (2).
The I  that I truly am within yearns for unending peace, for everlasting happiness, to "live happily ever after", to know that all is well and all will be well. Where could such sentiments come from except from the heart of a loving God, a God Who's very nature has to exude that peace and happiness we relate to so readily? And if we genuinely yearn also for mercy and compassion doesn't it show us that God's heart must be full of that mercy and compassion?
If we know life as God knows it we would know the right way of dealing with whatever arises during our brief sojourn on this planet. We allow situations to overcome us because we are either ignorant of True Knowledge or in our misbegotten pride we attack the situation in our own away-from-home strength, in a futile attempt at being gods unto ourselves.
To unlock the hidden knowledge we need to find our way home, but we need the Map, and along with the Map the Guide, Someone who will not only show us the way but will reveal Himself to actually be The Way. Like the Prodigal Son we must retrace our steps in humbleness of heart to our Father's heart, our true home. He will be waiting, as He has always been, to welcome us, His eyes shining with tears of happiness, His arms outstretched, eager to hold us,  a feast prepared from a long time past to celebrate our return . . .  And that's only the beginning.
