TRUE LOVE CONQUERS ALL
We are, each of us, eternal spirits living in these bodies, relating to creation and to other people through our brain intakes, our senses etc. What we call our "soul" is the experience we, as spirits, partake of in relating to this world system of cause and effect by means of our bodies of flesh and blood and, through the incoming information we receive via our computer brains and our bodily senses, experiencing the laws upon which this world system is based . In truth, I am not a 6 foot person weighing approximately 180 pounds. I am a spirit. I have a soul and I use this body to interact with the world around me but I cannot be measured. I, of myself, am outside of pain and worry and the limits of logic and rational thinking etc., but whilst I live in and through this body I must acknowledge all of its experiences. Once I saw that, I knew I did not need to settle for less than the best, so to speak, for this body. I did not need to allow this False World or the deception I was birthed into to hold me captive any longer. I could claim all of my spiritual inheritance, held for me until now, and apply its power to whatever limitations I may perceive in my human life. I'm truly free and I must live so. However, this freedom I partake of can only be truly experienced if I have, first of all, died to the self-centered identity into which I had been conceived, then been "raised to my new True Life". This death is real. If it hasn't occurred I have not been truly set free. I'm still "lord" of my life. Self, no matter how grand its works or motives, is still on the throne. It must abdicate and the True Self be restored to its rightful place. The king must die! Long live the King!
Many experiences of freedom are simply experiences without the death of Self. Drugs can give the sense of freedom. Mind games, hypnotism, exercises and potions which bring about altered states of consciousness, near death experiences,- all of these can shift a person into a realm or condition beyond the reasoning mind, in which he feels completely at peace, euphoric, blissful, "at one with God", etc., etc. But if the experience does not also enable the person to then live consciously in the Fallen World, understanding exactly how it operates, knowing how to confront the deceptive wickedness which is the essence of that world and able to see through the myriad counterfeits of the True Way then it is merely a passing touch of the Infinite and can become a source of deception.
The True Life does not evade. It doesn't call suffering illusion or walk past those victims lying helpless by life's roadside. As long as it inhabits this flesh and blood body, in its ability to see all and to know all it has a work to do. That work is to bring life to the dead, to open the eyes of those who cannot truly see, to dance and to wave to those who seek a joy from beyond this world, to invite them to the dance and to introduce them to the Lord of the Dance. We, in our new identity, are to emulate our True Lord and Savior. ". . .to bring good news to the suffering and afflicted. . .to comfort the broken - hearted, to announce liberty to captives and to open the eyes of the blind." (1).
True Love is fierce. It is jealous of what it is and will not acknowledge counterfeits. It looks into each heart, past the petty emotions and ambitions of Self, to its center, where innocence lies sleeping and sees God's stamp, "Bought At A Great Price" (2). "Do Not Touch" (3). The reason the seeker ran from the cave after he got a glimpse of Truth (4) is that Truth's face is the face of True Love and Self Love cannot stand its gaze. True Love demands that one die to Self Love before he can tolerate True Love's presence. True Love walks through this old Fallen World wielding the flaming Sword of Truth, confronting all hypocrisy, deception, compromise and counterfeit.
True Love sweeps aside all of our protests and excuses and laughs gently at our feelings of inadequacy and overcomes our frustrations and tears with, "It's all right. Everything's fine. I'm here now. Just sit with Me a moment. I have something to tell you . . ." True Love is God come to live with His people, come to heal them and restore them and build them up, to comfort and cuddle them and encourage them as they begin their New Life. And True Love is God looking through His children's eyes at this poor old world and its hurting prisoners and reaching out through His children's arms to hug them and tell them He knows how they feel and He misses them so much and He wants them to come home . . . right now.Footnotes, (The Bible)
