When we know ourselves as God knows us we will see that we are one as He is One (1). As there is only one God there is only one of everything. Every tree comes from the original idea of one tree coming from the mind of God, every bird from its original idea, each species from its original idea and man from God's idea of how He would look in human form. "And God said, 'Let the earth bring forth . . . the tree, yielding fruit after its kind . . . fowl that may fly above the earth . . .after its kind ' . . .And God said, 'Let us make man in our image' . . ." (2). Under our appearances, our skin color, our cultural differences we are one. Each man is truly my brother, each woman my sister, coming from God's original family.
However, there is a curse upon us, a curse which has turned beauty into a beast. Mankind, like Snow White, took a bite of the poisoned apple and we each fell into a deep sleep. In that sleep we live a dream, another life, a life of struggle and strife, of worry and weariness. We walk in a world which has also been cast into the dream. At the moment of our conception we are conceived into this dream state (3) and at our birth we wake up into this cursed dream (4). We believe it's the only world, the only life we have. We are taught to make the best of it, and any reference to another world is relegated, in various ways to, "There is a happy land far, far away . . .", a land to which we will go if we live good lives or if we eventually make up for the wrong we did in past lives. There is indeed a "Happy Land", far, far away from the dream we live but there also is a multitude of versions of that land and a multitude of deceiving ways to it. "There is a way which seems right to a man but the end thereof are the ways of death" (5).Some believe there is nothing at all after this life, some believe life hereafter is what you choose it to be. Others wait eagerly for their alien saviors to come and take them to a parallel earth where all is sweetness and light.
In our childhood we each enact our fantasies. We dress up as heroes or heroines. We pretend we are "grown up" and all is bliss and happiness and good prevails. Within the context of the play-acting we are symbolically acting out our desire to live "happily ever after"; we are instinctively sensing our rightful inheritance, what our future life should be. Within each of us, whilst we are in the dream, there is a seed of immortality, an embryonic nature needing to be nurtured to its own conception. Every child is a one-off, special in its own right. Within it, that "made in God's image" nature is struggling to break through the shell of its sleep-walking human nature. However, we cannot wake ourselves up from the sleep of deception. We need to be kissed by our True Love. The good news is that our Prince is already here. He who loves us far beyond our wildest dreams comes to us with His Kiss of Love and Life and whispers, " It's time to wake up. The spell has been broken". We don't have to sleep the sleep of the dead any longer. The bad news would be that it seems so simple we find it hard to believe, so we choose to stay where we are, determinedly holding on, like the monkey with its hand in the cookie jar, unable to let go, prisoners to our own ideas of happiness.
Too often parents, not having been freed themselves, look on their children's fantasizing as simply that and, without realizing the significance of what they are doing, they debunk such fantasizing as the child grows up. In its place they cultivate a dread or determined sense of survival, a need to be responsible, to be serious about the need to take this life too seriously, that "it's a tough life out there and you need to be well prepared in order to survive." Of course what they say is essentially true but by debunking the glimpses of another life they condemn the child to giving this Fallen World with its deceiving system too much importance and power.
There is a balance. Whilst we live under the spell of this World Belief System we need to know we are away from home. ". . .I implore you, as strangers and exiles in this world. . ." (6). We also need to know we don't have to stay under its spell a moment longer. We need to see the truth about "the dead burying their own dead" (7), and wake up to what is already waiting for each of us: our True Life as God's children. If we, for whatever reason, refuse to wake up we stay in the sleep of the dead, dead to True Life. Snow White might as well have been dead. As long as she remained asleep she couldn't participate in her real, wake-up life. The imagery in the story is interesting. She was saved from actually dying and kept alive until the prince found her. Wickedness in the shape of the queen strove to destroy her. But good conquered evil and they all lived happily ever after. All except for the queen of course. As for us, God sent Jesus to wake us up from the death of the sinner nature.
Since we are, each of us, originally members of God's family He, like any loving mother or father, doesn't distinguish between us. He doesn't have favorites (8). He loves each of us equally and completely . We are each the apple of His eye (9). Like the old Tin Pan Alley song, when He looks at you (which is continually) He "only has eyes for you". The same for me. He doesn't give us a hard time. We give ourselves a hard time, either through our own ignorance or because we find it difficult to believe we can be loved that much. I can understand that. That's why I love to share with you what I have discovered over the years. Because we each are "like unto God" in our original natures, God treats us each with equal love. God loves you equally as much as He loves me . How much is that? I'll tell you: He cannot love you with a portion of His love. He, because of Who He is, must love you with all of His heart. His love comes from outside of time and space. It cannot be measured. It is not conditional. He will never withdraw it. He has never put limitations on His love for you. If, at any time, or for whatever reason, you believed that you were not or had never been loved, you've been fooled. GOD HAS ALWAYS LOVED YOU AND HE LOVES YOU RIGHT NOW ! (10).
So you may ask why He didn't let you know before now. How come He waited 'til now? If you are drowning, you don't ask the lifeboat skipper why he took so long in coming. You just grab the life belt and let him haul you in. First things first.
You've been hoodwinked by other sleepwalkers long enough. You've been kept asleep too long by others ignorant of the Truth or by those who have allied themselves with the Deceiver in return for a kingdom on this Earth or the buzz of believing they are their own savior. If they wish to remain asleep or in a dream of their own choosing, that's their business. As for you, your Prince has come and He's waiting for you to say "Yes". Go for it.
