Principles of Power
No.3: Freedom Comes From Within Not From Without.
(Ref. Basic Laws No.3)

The purpose of this particular chapter is to show the distinctions between the distorted life of the Fallen World and the True Life of the Spirit World.
The two worlds, the Fallen World and the True World, are, because of the distortion of Good, opposed to each other. Once you see this, pieces of the jigsaw will start falling into place. The world of Eternal Spirit and the world of Fallen Nature are, at this time, at war. However, a time is coming soon when all conflict will be resolved and True Peace will again reign sovereignly throughout all of life. At present, though, "...the natural man does not welcome the revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are nonsense to him"(1).
Some years ago I heard these words: "Turn it around. If you wish to know how Spirit understands the ways of life on Earth, take what natural man understands of how it should be, then turn it around and see the opposite viewpoint." In serious situations that's a handy way of quickly seeing how God sees. When you try this you may not be quite ready to deal with the situation as God means you to but you will get a revelation of how life should be for you. Meantime whoever wishes to wake up to Truth will find the Way opening up before him.
A great paradox prevails throughout life. It seems as though the forces of Good and Evil are continually battling with each other, one side momentarily winning, then the other. Whilst it is true that Good and Evil are opposed to each other as such, the war which obviously does go on here on planet Earth is actually based on deception. That deception is founded on the mistaken belief that evil is a power in its own right, promoted by a god or spirit or force, whatever one wishes to call it, and striving to overcome its good counterpart. The premise that the Good can possibly be overcome at all denies the Good its eternal, omnipotent power and ability to reign sovereignly.
To illustrate with an everyday analogy: Darkness, as we know it, does not exist in its own right. It is the absence of light in a particular situation. When we walk into a darkened room we pull a switch. The light comes on and darkness automatically disappears. If that doesn't occur we do not look to the darkness for a reason. We investigate the light system to find the fault. We know the fault lies with the light. Darkness triumphs only when somehow the light has been interfered with. Think about it: Once you discover how to make the light work you have discovered how the darkness is dispelled. The emphasis is on looking to the light for the full solution and the electricity which provides the light is always available. It's simply a matter of discovering how to reconnect with it.
The problem with evil and wickedness in this world is that men do not look sufficiently to the Light. Because they are so completely deceived they are under the spell of what the Fallen World offers in terms of personal gratification but, like leprechaun's gold, such treasures turn to withered leaves in the early morning sunlight.
When you refuse to settle for the temporary and ever-changing rewards of this World-Belief-System your mind is beginning to clear. You are waking up from the dream, stepping off the stage, turning your face toward home. You are turning away from looking out of yourself into the Fallen World for your means of peace and happiness and you are turning back to within yourself, to within your own heart, to find the true road back home. You are turning away from the temporary, ever-changing things of natural man's deceived ways and turning toward God's true, unchanging ways.
You have started on the road to the treasure of who you really are as God sees you, freed, healed, restored. At last you are beginning to see that it isn't thechanging of situations or people that will bring you True Peace and Happiness, that True Freedom comes from within.
Of course it's obvious that even whilst you embark on your inward journey some changes are still necessary in certain situations in daily life. Pain is not an illusion. The anguish in a particular situation is real. To the extent of your natural ability they must be dealt with. You do not walk past your fellow-man without reaching him a helping hand in his time of need. But as you reach out you know you have begun the real journey home as well, and just think: when you reach home, when God raises you up again into your new, true nature and life, how much more you will be used of Him to bring His light into the darkness of this Fallen World, how you will more easily be able to deal with the problems of this life when seen in their true light and from the true perspective, how you will see actual results in whatever situation you find yourself.
And as you begin to apply your new, God-given understanding to your own daily life you will also discover that the freedom you are experiencing does not depend on any situation or any person changing in any way whatsoever. Your True Freedom will be God-based, coming from the God-life you will receive after you have died within and been raised again. What an exciting prospect.
